Four-Star Cornerback Jyaire Hill Commits to Michigan

Michigan football has added to its 2023 recruiting class with Jyaire Hill, a four-star cornerback out of Kankakee, Illinois. Hill is ranked No. 195 in the 2023 recruiting class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

As things got closer to national signing day Hill was trending towards becoming a Wolverine. This became fairly well-known thanks to a handful of crystal ball predictions that had Hill committing to Michigan. However, Hill threw a twist into his recruitment as he listed Illinois, Florida, Purdue, Missouri, and Kentucky as his final five.

Come to find out, Hill pulled a big-ole troll on college football fans as he ended up committing to the Wolverines just two days after he omitted them from his final five.

In college, Hill’s go-to trait will be his speed. At Kankakee, alongside football, he ran track. Hill was a successful runner, as a junior, he posted a 10.87-second 100-meter dash and as a senior, he posted a 21.90-second 200-meter dash.

On the football field, Hill played both sides of the ball and excelled at cornerback while making plays at running back on offense. On special teams, he returned kicks. To pair with his speed, Hill has a 6′ 1″ frame and projects to play as an outside corner.

Hill is a crucial grab for the Wolverines. In the past, Michigan has struggled to recruit corners. In 2022, they grabbed five-star Will Johnson, but he is the only corner on Michigan’s roster that was not a three-star coming out of high school. Previously, four-star corners Andre Seldon, Darion Green-Warren, and Myles Sims entered the transfer portal which has gutted their cornerback depth.

Hill is the fourth highest-rated commit in Michigan’s 2023 recruiting class behind Enow Etta, Cole Cabana, and Karmello English. In total, Michigan has nine four-star recruits and 14 three-star recruits in its 23-player class. This puts them at No. 17 in the 247 composite team rankings.

While Michigan does have an underwhelming 2023 recruiting class, they have found success in the transfer portal. Since the transfer portal opened, Michigan has landed seven transfer commitments and currently ranked owns the highest-ranked transfer class.
